It was a good narrative adventure game, but for me, it lacked impactful choices and actual gameplay, not just minigames.
Gameplay-wise, this is a narrative adventure game through and through.
In Tides of Tomorrow, I see growth in every aspect and no degradation: awesome music, good and interesting moral dilemmas and problems, and improved graphics.
The levels are brimming with little details: plasticy record players with twisted plumbing amplifiers, plastic guitars with plastic strings, a wide variety of plastic fashion, and a soundtrack that seemingly makes use of plastic instruments (and has some great synth work to boot).
The game being an asynchronous cooperative multiplayer adds something that Road 96 felt like it was missing - other people on the same journey you're on, doing their best just like you.
