There are regular tweaks to the UI, cool little updates like adding unlockable pets that you can have as your floating mascot whilst you race, adding in crafting when it wasn't an original game mechanic etc.

They give a lot of content for free (I was surprised local split screen was free where other kart games dont even have them) and you just need to buy a pass once to unlock everything which is nice to see and you keep your pass forever.
