What players think

That said, as someone who played this version because I was desperate to continue the story after 1st Chapter's cliff hanger, this is one of my favorite JRPGs ever, and I think it exceeds the quality of its predecessor in nearly every respect.
Where the first game had a pretty good soundtrack, this one has some of my favorite JRPG battle themes of all time.
The old art style is certainly of its mid 2000s era, and even in that context it's got pretty low fidelity compared to some of the AAA stuff from that time, but it still has a lot of charm and just has at times genuinely interesting environments, characters, monsters, and effects.
### For Steam Deck users: i played it from start to finish on Steam Deck.
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway. 2 more themes were each raised by fewer than 6 sampled reviews and are not shown.
