What players think
The recurring themes across 300 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
The updated visuals respect the original art style and atmosphere, and the option to switch between classic and remastered graphics is a great feature for long-time fans.
- The main menu music does not cut out during loading screens or when starting a level where there is no background music (for example, Venice level on TR2, Lara's Home on TR3), causing the main menu music to play during gameplay.
I also appreciate the "tank controls" having mostly the same retro control layout on PC and on controller (uses PS1 inspired layout).
A significant number of Chinese characters have been replaced with Japanese kanji, and all new text added in Patch 5 was translated by Al, resulting in inconsistencies with the original localization.
The soundtrack and sound design help maintain the classic Tomb Raider atmosphere, which adds a lot to the experience.
