Story and characters
Players who bring up Story and characters mostly praise it.
Further, instead of a traditional JRPG setup like the Gameboy games or the non-linear select-a-protagonist approach of Frontier 1 (and the Romancing subseries), Frontier 2 had a series of individual events, each locked to its own locations and parties of characters.

Gameplay
Players who bring up Gameplay mostly praise it.
Still, the major gameplay "fixes" allowed me to finally experience what SaGa Frontier 2 really has to offer -- easily the best story in a SaGa game, taking place over nearly a century.

I did have much more appreciation for the watercolors and soundtrack, but that wasn't enough to keep me on board.

Interface
Players who bring up Interface mostly praise it.
They streamlined the chronology, so you don't have to hop all around the world and research which event happens before which so you don't get spoiled, they made it so you can unequip characters inbetween events (including those you don't have access to anymore), they made it so you can scrap items from the menu without having to go back to town and even added a storage to save up on precious space, they made it clearer when you can go back to towns inbetween events for some shopping, as well as telling you when it'd be a good idea to make a separate save so you don't get ♥♥♥♥♥♥, they added a stats inheritance system (kinda like the mentorship system from Breath of Fire 3) so you aren't penalized for grinding outside of the endgame.. heck, they even added the Pocket Playstation minigame!
