While this sounds like a bad thing, the progression actually feels really good since much of it is related to player skill rather than getting good unlocks, although getting unlocks certainly helps.
The biggest might be that the way combat works in this game feels far more dynamic and strategic.

The combo meter impact as well further adds to the complexity so a fun game for people that enjoy managing multiple resources while still getting strong combinations and different styles of play across the characters.
