What players think
The recurring themes across 300 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
Just notice how much better and more natural the game’s pacing and progression are compared to Clear Sky, and you’ll see that embracing the more exploration- and narrative-driven nature of SoC—instead of intrusive faction wars—was the right call.
The developers have implemented advanced lighting effects, global illumination, improved reflections, higher-resolution textures, and a more dynamic weather system.
The gameplay is great, but the story is weaker than previous games.
Like the other 2 games, it plays similar, being an open-world RPG/FPS hybrid, being closer to the newer Clear Sky but better balanced.
The ambient sound design, enhanced in this version, plays a crucial role in maintaining that immersion.
The user interface has been streamlined, and the addition of controller support makes it more accessible.
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway. One more theme was raised by fewer than 6 sampled reviews and is not shown.
