Injustice God Among Us does something that very few fighting games ever even attempt to do - tell an interesting story.
Mechanics are flawless, thanks to Ed Boon the creator behind Mortal Kombat series since the early 90s.
Character traits provide another distinguishing element, helping prevent the roster from feeling like a collection of visually different fighters using essentially identical techniques.
To fully appreciate the visual splendor of the fighting bits, I recommend turning the textures and shadows to maximum, and upping the contrast.
Combat is relatively accessible at a basic level but provides enough complexity for players interested in learning combos, positioning, special attacks, defensive techniques, and character-specific strategies.
It's not a daily grind sort of game anymore now that the NetherRealm playerbase has moved well beyond it, but it's still a great couch co-op throwback.
