What players think
The recurring themes across 300 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
Its greatest strength is its atmosphere and story, most of which you can completely miss if you don't go hunting for hidden terminals, and even then you have to connect a lot of dots yourself.
Classic Marathon overall, however, is a fun game to play, yet sometimes repetitive and it does get boring and tedious if being played for a long time, but is a good FPS game to play in short bursts!
As for the gameplay, it's actually really fun for the most part.
The soundtrack is moody and ominous, perfectly complementing the dark corridors and sterile alien architecture.
Multiplayer is fun for those of us who played it back in the 90s but may not be palatable to people who have only played newer games.
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway. 2 more themes were each raised by fewer than 6 sampled reviews and are not shown.
