What players think
The recurring themes across 300 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
Super content rich but in terms of roleplay a little bland, but worth it purely for the gameplay of blobbing (Expanding as fast and as far as possible).
Every situation in this game is truly different and you will basically never have a campaign that ever feels same-y.
Vanilla single-player is fine but it gets boring by the 1600s but thankfully there's a lot of mods/overhauls out there, multiplayer is pretty much dead but there's still a decent amount of communities/groups hosting lobbies, just keep in mind that there are a lot of try-hards that make the game really unfun so proceed with caution.
The AI's competency doesn't scale with difficulty, they just get more bonuses, a la Civ.
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway. 5 more themes were each raised by fewer than 6 sampled reviews and are not shown.
