However the Steam-Layout for games that don't officially support controllers worked like a charm here, the one I made for myself made the game so much fun on both the Steamdeck and with a Xbox-Controller so that outdated control scheme problem can be entirely nullified!
To add the cherry on top of this messy sundae, I recommend that you map your checkpoint marker button to the south/down part of the d-pad.
It was an amazing experience on my Steamdeck!
