You control a spaceship and the gameplay is a lot like a shoot 'em up combined with a survivor game.
Graphically and musically it reminds of great classics of the past like Tyrian (I swear that one of the BGM must be a tribute to that game's soundtrack), the pixel art is amazing, and even when there's tons of stuff on the screen (Gunfield is somewhat of a bullet hell in parts) it's always easy to understand what enemies, bullets, bonuses and helpful areas are.
NICE PRESENTATION: Good graphics, good music.
Also it's great on the steamdeck if you got one!
The controller support is solid for the most part (needs some work on the menus; the "Catalog" isn't fully navigable without a mouse yet) but there's also KB+M.
