The use of newly added flares takes advantage of the aforementioned improved lighting system, as a lot of areas in the game are too dark to see without them, and it adds a nice extra element of exploration and discovery.

The new weapons are awesome, quite frankly, and some, such as the M16, require some actual tactics to use, rather than just holding control and backflipping.

The enemies were in the lion's den, I was on the upper ground and it was a great feeling at the end of the game and a really interesting and fun ending (compared to the spectacular but rather monotonous fight with the dragon)
