The engine, story structure, and factions are all identical so many of the strengths and flaws have carried over.
At its core, Red Alert delivers classic RTS gameplay built around base construction, resource management, and unit strategy.
It’s a slightly improved version of C&C and there is still a great vibe set by the excellent soundtrack and pixel art, so I’d recommend this if you want to experience a boomer RTS game.
One of my favourite games growing up, works great on steam deck (all I am able to get game time on these days) but have played 2 hours and both skirmish games have eventually crashed before I could finish them.
Even with questionable balancing, it can be fun, especially skirmish mode, which is found in the multiplayer menu and can be played against AI.
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway. 2 more themes were each raised by fewer than 5 sampled reviews and are not shown.
