Has great ideas and quite subtle, intelligent gameplay choices but suffers from several serious repetitive/forced micromanagement issues.
Graphics are at least serviceable and create a gorgeous sight in combination with the organically growing city.
I played for 11 hours (on regular speed, only pausing very seldomly) until I reached the end of the renaissance a few minutes ago (which currently leads to one getting unceremoniously dumped back to the main menu).

Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway. 3 more themes were each raised by fewer than 6 sampled reviews and are not shown.
