THE KING OF FIGHTERS '98 ULTIMATE MATCH FINAL EDITION

Code Mystics once again has done a fantastic job with adding rollback netcode and I can play matches from across the country and even with people in Europe and have a very playable connection.

I feel '98 UM FE has the best mix between the quality of its combat mechanics and presentation, with a big mix of characters to play with.

The roster remains one of the game’s greatest strengths and a major reason it continues to be played competitively.

Code Mystics have recently retrofitted rollback netcode and multiplayer lobbies into this game which improves its online playability considerably to the point that I no longer feel guilty recommending it to anyone.

Honestly, the difference between this and '2002 is pretty small as far as I can see, and although I've not played that one as much as this, I just personally prefer some of the character move-sets and voice acting in this game.

XIII has better graphics, some nice character customisation and other good modern features, and in some ways is a bit easier to pick up and play as a beginner, but it's also more complex in terms of the combo potential.
