Eve of Calamity

Eve of Calamity is WELL worth the price tag, the gameplay is fun, and the Dev team is active in its updates and patches.

The player character follows a straightforward but satisfying character arc, beginning the game as a desperate novice and ending it as a hero worthy of the title.

Your Party consists of 3 Companions + Yourself, so with this in mind you can have a varied roster from a extremely quick rogue crit fisher + secondary buffer through Mona, to Alfred being a devestating Necromancer/Archmage destroying enemies through DoT application spells, and devastating ST damage spells like Blizzard, if used without any additional enemies on the field.

In my opinion, the enemy sprites in combat and the spell animations are very good looking, it's mostly characters and environment that suffer from the art.

Battles are quick and have a satisfying difficulty curve, wasting no time on unnecessary fluff and forcing you to genuinely struggle in the early game, especially before you fill out your party.
