Biggest critique I can give is some portions of the main game path can sometimes feel like either a hurry-up and wait or a grind to redo every part over and over, but the continual optimization for me is often one of the most rewarding parts.

regarding difficulty, all of the modes felt fine. the only challenging part, almost frustratingly so, were Milestones 7 & 8 on Classic - Insane.

That part is a matter of taste, but objectively the game has great UX, which is incredibly important for getting into a game like this: you don't want to constantly be fighting the interface when you're focused on building, and it's clear the developers put a lot of thought into making interactions as smooth as possible in such a complex game.
