The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak

The last two chapters drags on so much for no reason (all the stuff before the last dungeon is painful) but they're the best for the main story progression.

When combat encounters can be so much fun, it's a real shame when Van and the gang are forced to do detective work, running around town and talking to a seemingly endless number of NPCs instead of beating up all kinds of monsters.

The battle system is really innovative thanks to the live-action and turn-based switch mechanic.

The pleasantly varied locations are not mindblowing in terms of graphics, but thanks to clear shapes, bold colors, and successful architecture, they are just as attractive as the characters.

With clean art design and, last but not least, an excellent soundtrack typical of Falcom, the presentation is superb.

She was frankly the best new character and it felt like she should have been a member of the team or at least part of the final battle.
