F.E.A.R. came out at a time when horror games and horror elements bleeding into other genres of games had reached their respective peaks in the mainstream; this was thanks to the Resident Evil/Biohazard series and Silent Hill series both gaining huge influence, and the console FPS Halo: Combat Evolved adding horror elements to its eclectic mix of sci-fi first-person shooter game play.
Not quite on the level of the Half Life series but is an excellent linear story experience in it's own right.
This is largely due to a shift in gameplay towards more combat, hence why I've only ever played the original.
Recommended if you want an old-school FPS with smart enemies, strong atmosphere, and can accept the age of the visuals.
During my playthrough with the main base game that worked quite well with it's very good optimization for a 2005 game, the multiplayer did not work sadly, maybe unless you maybe did some searching here and there on the internet, which isn't very convenient, considering they could have tried to fix the multiplayer, not only that, but the expansions (or DLC) that are included when buying the base game, which are "F.E.A.R.: Extraction Point" and "F.E.A.R.: Perseus Mandate" gave me this error on startup: "security module cannot be activated" Error 8016, which I haven't found a fix for it yet, even after trying Run as Administrator or Compatibility mode, it gave me the same error, even though it only happened to me, I'm not sure if It's happening to anybody else or not other than the ones who also wanted to fix this error and posted a discussion about it.
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway.
