Controller input feels incredibly natural, though I found the keyboard controls less intuitive.
Why are there no iterations on the picross gameplay loop to make it something newer or more interesting?
These are all contest winners made for the game which gives the soundtrack a bit of a late-2000s NND feel (earnest but rough around the edges), for better and worse.
While on the subject of music, there's 5 other Vocaloid characters included as little mascots you can have on the side as you play, the Kagamine twins, Luka, Meiko, Kaito, but there's no songs for them, when you select them it doesn't change to them doing a cover of the song, they just sit there while Miku sings, it feels so lazy and like it barely cares about the music side of the HATSUNE MIKU game, music is literally the most integral part of Hatsune Miku's whole thing, otherwise she'd just be another illustration of an anime girl that has nothing more to offer the world beyond her design, so why not show a love of the Vocaloid community and it's music here?
While the unlockable songs are fantastic, they can only be played in a dedicated menu.
Songs from this game have been stuck in my head constantly, but it is also a very easy game to boot up on a Steam Deck and play a little mindlessly while listening to other music, a podcast, or whatever else.
