What players think
The recurring themes across 198 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
I am a bit younger than the target audience, but I still enjoyed the story and flashback to the golden days.
I loved the 1-bit style, the use of dithering in the pixel art to denote textures and shading, in the very variegated way that it did, was so, so clever, and extremely interesting to look at.
Replayability value: Yes, to see all the endings, explore further optional content and for completionists.
Videoverse is a niche title, but one that can demonstrate both the wholesomeness and toxicity of the internet and how much of an impact video games and online friends from across the globe can have on people, especially teenagers.
The soundtrack, subtle and atmospheric, supports the tone without overwhelming the dialogue-driven format.
There's a lot of charm in VIDEOVERSE, the user interface feels rather simple and maybe even limited, but in a nostalgic way, the music further adds to this with some cozy tunes while you browse the boards.
