While the dynamic between units, enemies and level design results in some fairly balanced gameplay.

Difficulty scales pretty well and the challenge is fairly balanced even on veteran difficulty.

The art style and presentation is hugely improved from the original game but the core gameplay is as broken, linear, and rubbish as ever.

The only annoying thing is the relentless loud explosions which mean i need to turn the volume down or else i get grief from the wife but the sound effects in general are pretty good.

There are ambush attacks and other special combat scenarios, such as enemy return fire that make the game more than just a straight tower defense game.
