Toki Tori 2+, sequel of Toki Tori, a successful massively-multiplayer online FPS game, offers a completely new set in a dystopian future, with game mechanics and graphics from scratch made to reality using the brand-new Unreal Engine 4.
Similar to its prequel, the campaign still follows its lore: it's year 2039, and you are still the little bird with his dad with the instructions, from the Pentagon, to carry out an important, secret operation which will determine the faith of the United States of America and America itself, in a rather discreet way, of course without being noticed by the several militants set across every level: from Soviet soldiers to the occasional National socialist patrols, along with the potential ambushes from the Islamic State.
The game becomes mind bendingly clever, utilising a focus on the subtle: graphical decals you thought were merely appearances, turn out to be delightfully fundamental gameplay mechanics.
The soundtrack is delightfully serene, arguably cute, and whilst it won't be winning any awards, the calming musical nature will have you chirping along, and there's something appeasing about the aesthetic of a song not trying too hard.
I'm happy to say this works very satisfyingly with a plug-in PSX controller, and runs smoothly on Linux!
