However, the gameplay is good and there's lots of records to aim for i.e. complete a level with pistol only, melee only, no explosives, don't get hit at all, etc.

That and hyper realistic graphics and being essentially walking story telling with very little gameplay (just make a movie at that rate, not a game.) The graphics are simple yet ideal to look at without it being distracting or wanting your attention.

Very well thought out story line with a wonderful climax, the soundtrack sounds like angels are whispering in my ear and the graphics are by far the best I have ever seen.
