What players think
The recurring themes across 177 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
This is a reoccurring theme too as the rest of the backstory and other NPC dialogue fit this more dark and raunchy mood that make TEOA stand out so much.
It's a sometimes hyper crass Earthbound like, with gameplay elements pulled from Riviera the Promised land, and presentation straight from Pokemon.
The visuals are just like the old Gameboy Color bit-style graphics with a bit more detail and nuance to the pixel sprites.
The pixel art is charming and leans into the game’s weird energy, while the soundtrack and pacing support the narrative enough to make the journey feel coherent despite its absolute nonsense.
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
No recurring complaints surfaced in this sample.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway. One more theme was raised by fewer than 4 sampled reviews and is not shown.
