it's compelling and moody, though for me sofia's style is sooo jarring with the gothic atmosphere, even with all things considered lol. i wish it was a little longer so we could spend more time with the characters. for the price point, with this quality of story and visuals as well as smooth mechanics, i'm very happy to support a smaller studio!

The story contains sweet and very unsettling moments alike (themes of possessiveness, loss and self-discovery run through the game), enhanced by some remarkably original background art that contributes a lot to setting the atmosphere, and punctuated by a beautiful soundtrack.

I like the mechanics of the visuals being more distorted especially with the painting-style backgrounds as it progresses to the "darker scenes" or during "choice forks" for different endings, but the horror elements (i.e. jumpscares, shock scenes, etc) are pretty typical.

While not having the same amount of content to it as A Date With Death, Amelie has one of the better uses of the VN format I've seen, as every playthrough of the story builds on the previous one, unveiling the story little by little.
