Story and characters
Players who bring up Story and characters mostly praise it.
The narrative is pretty minimalistic and text-based, the main appeal of the game is definitely dungeon crawling, yet you always get some smaller narrative rewards by talking to the business owners whenever you reach a new floor, making you feel more attached to the characters and experience the fantasy of going from newbie to veteran explorer.

Gameplay
Players who bring up Gameplay mostly praise it.
One of the best dungeon crawling gameplay loops, everything outside the dungeon is built to have you go back there as soon as possible.

The HD remaster enhances the original’s presentation with cleaner visuals, higher-resolution character art, and refined audio, but it deliberately avoids reinventing the formula.

Interface
Players who bring up Interface mostly praise it.
Etrian Odyssey is a first-person dungeon crawler with a pretty cool mapping mechanic that nevers gets old, his presentation is pretty straightforward and menu-based outside dungeons, but it still manages to make the player feel the city of Armoroad as a second home.
