BUT after all that, the core gameplay is amazing.
Navigating is a pain, some menus like mousing more, some like gamepad more.
Animations having lots of weight, the moves feel impactful, special effects help the graphics pop, the way the screen zooms in dramatically when you hit an opponent with a decisive blow, the perfect shielding, and air dodging is all of that reminiscent of Smash.
