What players think
The recurring themes across 268 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
In addition to a solid if not exactly groundbreaking roster of weapons (crowbar, pistol, dual pistols, tommy gun, shot gun, molotov cocktail, flamethrower, and a BFG/Ankh Gun), the game also scatters around some various items that you will need to get into parts of the world that are gated off so there is a sense of exploration and worldbuilding that a lot of older FPSs lacked.
We're not exactly armed to the teeth here, but the weapons are fun to use.
The blend of Doom with cheeky horror is quite insane: the clowns ROFLMAO, and there's lore/story explaining everything too, so it sorta makes snese.
The touches added by Nightdive are mostly quality of life improvements that are expected for modern games, and the sprites and textures are all greatly enhanced over their original low resolution counterparts so it looks good at higher resolutions.
Going for more realistic building (by 90s fps standards) makes exploration a joy though it does lead to some very cramped level design.
It's such a shame that the OST isn't purchasable separate or uploaded elsewhere cause it's really good.
