The writing is excellent too, it takes jabs at itself and parodies many tropes that you see in anime all the time.
Character progression is great, customization is super in depth, there's a ton of variables that you can trigger, lots of buffs and debuffs and the like.
Some work has been done on the UI side to ensure you're not looking at tiny PSP-era text and menus, but the sprites, artwork, textures, etc are all pretty much the same, blown up to modern screen sizes.
