What players think
The recurring themes across 282 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
There's also the option to make the game easier, or to get progressively harder, but I opted to go for the difficulty right from the start since it's more fun when you slowly start to figure out the phrase and then the rest just falls into place.
After you have completed a puzzle, you are then able to see the name of the book it came from, read a synopsis of the story, and should it sound interesting to you, you can "Check it out" from the Project Gutenberg website.
Oh how I enjoyed the slowness of my gameplay; just taking it all very unhurriedly, deciphering/absorbing every quote with purpose and contemplation; then checking out the book on Project Gutenberg, reading the synopsis, the introduction, even the whole first chapter; then sometimes (oftentimes) downloading its epub form, continuing the reading session in my happy place.
Then there's a clean user interface, restrained in elegance, giving off that timeless noble simplicity, neatly organised into several genres of classic literature.
This game is an absolute labour of love and it shows in all the fine details and the gorgeous soundtrack.
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
No themes split opinion in this sample.
No recurring complaints surfaced in this sample.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway. 3 more themes were each raised by fewer than 6 sampled reviews and are not shown.
