The upside, though, is that this is a game that’s pretty easy to make your mind up about; new cars or guns won’t flip this game on its head if you don’t enjoy the core gameplay in the first 30 minutes, because the upgrades feel like more of the same, just better.

As for the gameplay, this is my first Carmageddon game ever, so I have no nostalgia or long-term emotional investment in the series, and I genuinely enjoy the combat racing rogue-lite gameplay loop.
