The pixel art style is very reminiscent of the golden age of LucasArts and Sierra games, and the close-up artwork they throw in from time to time reminds me a lot of the old Humongous Entertainment games.

As for gameplay: the puzzles are fantastic, parallel and non-linear, often very original, perfectly calibrated in terms of difficulty.

That difficulty was an easy pill to swallow because not only is it a very common problem for me to run into when playing point-and-click games, but the visual blessing that is the clean animation, vibrant setting, and interesting character quips made fussing around on the train fun to do as a player.
