Because most games that opt for a smaller moveset and linear level design end up like Astro Bot in the sense that the joy of the game isn't really challenging obstacle courses but some sense of nostalgia being pandered to or the novelty of differing control schemes or god forbid, the fact that the anthropomorphic tree is singing and his textures are so insanely detailed that you're wowed by the work of the artists more than the effort of the level designer.

Yet two were closest to the crown of being the game series that defined the PlayStation 1, chief amongst those was the Spyro games whose fantasy setting and more relaxed gameplay lend itself quite nicely for a truly cozy type of feeling that many casual gamers enjoyed thoroughly in a time when gaming still felt tied towards the arcade style of gameplay, making up for content with excessive difficulty to eat up those quarters.

All this is to say nothing of the game's beautiful PSX-esque graphics, its solid enough soundtrack.

It lovingly wears its love of Crash Bandicoot (specifically 1, not 2 or 3) on its sleeve, from explicit references like skins or the appearance of Crash in the opening story vignette, to harder to see influences like how Sybil's walk cycle and jump animations are exactly the same as the animations that Crash used for the same actions.
