DELTARUNE

I felt all the bits, characters, and plot points fit right in with Toby's classic vibe of UTDR and I really enjoyed where the plot was taking us.

The TP mechanic complements this well because it incentivises you to play dangerous and get close to bullets to gather more TP once you already know how to dodge the attack normally, which can speed up battles if you manage your turns well.

The graphics, writing, and soundtrack were completely on par and even improved in many aspects, I didn't hate this chapter in its entirety by any means!

While I am by no means skilled at the combat system (in fact I would say I suck horribly at it), it remains intuitive and, for the most part, fun, and while the game does progress in difficulty, thankfully, it progresses the difficulty on the mechanics and not just a scaling of the numbers.

Deltarune also has many overworld puzzles which I find to be quite overlooked despite being well designed, as they introduce their various concepts intuitively then increase in difficulty in a way that will never be frustrating for the player.

As a love-letter to childhood nostalgia and an appreciation for trying everything that is possible with 2D graphics, Deltarune really really surprised me.
