With the right gear and playstyle, however, you'll practically melt through bosses.

While there is undeniable detail in the worldbuilding and distinct care in making the story engaging, the actual writing is quite atrocious, and it starts with its very formatting.

While the game’s objectives are straight-forward to a fault, they inevitably lead you to some truly breathtaking boss fights that build in complexity and difficulty as the game progresses.

The soundtrack is pretty and atmospheric, but most tracks were fairly short, and there weren't enough to avoid repetition.

From its charming 16-bit art style and sprawling dark fantasy world to its frantic Soulslike boss fights and intricate lore, Hunt the Night is a masterpiece... almost.
