Other than the original Powerslave, I can't think of another throwback FPS that heavily integrates metroidvania elements.
There are only 2 real issues with the game that come to mind; the story feels underdeveloped, and left me feeling like I would've been fine not reading most runes had they not occasionally held crucial advice.
Anopek is a neat little Unity-made indie metroidvania in the gameplay style of Wolfenstein 3D, with quality sprite artwork and a distinctly Egyptian flavor.
The soundtrack in general is very chill and atmospheric, and fits the game very well.
I enjoy metroidvanias and I also like old-school FPS games, so I quite liked Anopek: the NES-styled pixelated graphics are charming, the soundtrack is pleasant and relaxing, the areas' structure is well thought-out (with a readable and useful map), the weapons are varied enough with nice secondary modes that can be deployed in some simple puzzles, the Ancient Egypt-inspired setting is always cool (including the strange bosses)...
The wholesome story, cartoony graphics and easy difficulty provide a good entry point into video games, and shooters in partucular while not being too childish for the average gamer to relax with.
