The gameplay itself is actually quite satisfying and difficult enough on the "normal" difficulty to keep the player engaged, with enough challenge to give the player reason to care about the various powerups and abilities.
Overall you get to dive into a pretty detailed crafted world, while the character interactions keep scenes interesting, with not too much gameplay interspersed to break things up.
