And yet, underneath all that carefully aged gorgonzola there is a surprisingly intricate game design; full of slowly unfolding elements, pleasant yet firm difficulty curve, enough variety for a quite long campaign, and even some meta progression.

The vaguely retro graphics and optional fuzzy video tape overlay lend it a lot of personality.

The game play is fun and challenging (especially after you progress in the game far enough) and the story consistently challenges me (to the point of frustration some times which kudos since not many games can do that to me and still make me want to play XD)

The soundtrack reinforces the atmosphere with dramatic themes that heighten the tension during monster attacks while maintaining the game's playful tone.

There's crisis management, using buildings as bait, project deckbuilding, scientist evacuation, experimental weapons, tactics and technologies, upgrading your hero units... like I said before, this is a huge game; as big as any of the AAA strategy titles of eld.
