Touhou 09 has so many characters that you can play as, all with differing play styles which makes the story re-playable.
About the multiplayer, This game is damn fun to play with friends, if you can convince them to join you.
The competitive form factor is a nice change of pace from the more story-focused gameplay of your average Touhou game, the differing mechanics are fun to learn and even more fun to use, and the game is filled to the brim with unique characters and returning songs.
