I have been looking forward to their follow up and Saltsea Chronicles does not disappoint if you are into well written narrative tales.
Like Mutazione, Saltsea Chronicles is narrative first (even more so than the former game, this is more akin to a pure visual novel) that features excellent writing, characters, a wonderfully unique art style and aesthetic and a great digestible chapter structure.
I have only played through once so far, but there definitely seems to be replayability - I have things still to collect and there were other choices I could have made.
Again we get a well-written cast of lovable outsiders with enjoyable character growth; alternative communities emerging after tragic disaster; a maritime theme with lots of fantastical plants and animals; an overarching story that veers into the supernatural, a lot of minor and major personal "drama"; brilliant sound design, art and animation; no puzzles that could distract from the narrative and pull you out of immersion; and a story that goes much deeper than it first seemed.
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
No recurring complaints surfaced in this sample.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway.
