The core gameplay is more or less identical to the 1990 original, with some well thought out additions.
Yuzo Koshiro is one of the best living video game composers and he has not only rearranged the original soundtrack but also added new tracks as well as extending a few of the originals.
In the settings there’s options for Background Music (Renaissance or Classic), Background Music and Sound Effects Volume Sliders, Message Speed, Brightness, Screen Mode, Resolution, Frame Rate, V-sync, Language (English, French, German, Chinese) and Key Configuration (Controller, Keyboard and mouse).
The game runs well on Steam Deck with the exception of one platforming stage where there's a particle effect that slows things down a ton.
