What players think
The recurring themes across 300 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
The only time i liked this game was when doing the story, playing againts a bot, or watching videos on youtube about it.
Meanwhile in +R or Rev 2 I can get destroyed, land three hits the entire match, and still feel like a kid on Christmas morning because the gameplay itself is fun.
i really want to enjoy this game, like i really do, the characters are all pretty good, the ost is top notch, it's really fun to learn the characters and use them, but what the hell is all this dlc and battlepass doodoo
The graphics are beautiful.
I don't think I need to explain the character select screen, it's just... boring, that's it. it also lack the chains and extras guilty gear had before. now let me talk about something I didn't hear people complain about. the arcade mode. now, the arcade mode is pretty decent by itself, but as someone who played both xx and xrd's (especially xrd's) arcade modes, this tries to follow both and end up making it worse in the way. making certain endings hardly possible for some players, strive follows xx by having multiple endings, and xrd in the cpu level system. xrd work in a way that the cpu level decreases or goes higher depending on your performance in each match. this is also used in strive (in a way it determines the difficulty based on your wins rather than actual performance) to determine which route you'll go on. there are 4 routes: extreme, hard, normal and easy. extreme must be achieved by flawlessly winning EVERY MATCH. by flawless I mean not losing a single round.. once you lose a ROUND, you cannot get back to extreme. you can go to any other difficulty but not extreme. this wouldn't be a big problem, if it didn't have different endings, meaning if you cannot achieve clearing extreme route, you are locked out of getting an ending until you can actually achieve it, which was me, impossible.
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway. 3 more themes were each raised by fewer than 6 sampled reviews and are not shown.
