What The Necromancer’s Tale lacks in reactivity, it makes up for in genuinely strong writing and a setting that is rarely touched in this subgenre.
But if you liked Disco Elysium and would like to play something... similar in gameplay (in terms of dialogue, world traversal etc., with HUGE differences obvs), but with occult themes and set in an alternate history 18th century, you won't find another game that fits the bill.
Yes, this is an indie project, and you can feel it in the visuals and voice acting.
While the soundtrack is pretty decent, voice acting, too, lacks quality, especially when some of the actors insist on mimicking regional accents that can at times sound so outlandish, it borders on parody.
