The quest log really helps keep you busy with tasks and rewards, and the rewards have an element of RNG that is a lot of fun, is it gonna rain pigs from the sky?
It doesn't yet (at version 0.59 at least) include some fair basics of MC (boats, trains, ...) but it got mostly everything that's important for long-term progression fun.
At the moment to enjoy multiplayer, you have to run an instance of the launcher to host a server, then open another instance of the launcher from where the game directory is saved so you can play the game.
