Graphics
Players who bring up Graphics mostly praise it.
The graphics, while still acceptable and pretty good at the time, doesn't hold up to today's standards: the reflections are simple, the trees are ok, the buildings are low-quality and the sea (seafloor, water and similar) is basic.

Best PR in the series imo. on steam i have ~20h but i have spent hundreds on the pirated version. gameplay is fun although it might frustrate you if you try to attack towns. for an old game it has a surprising amount of mechanics and features and the combat is fun save for the duels. if you like more strategic combat the 4th might be more fun for you (turn-based), as the RTS battles in this game can be cheesed with a certain tactic and ship (even 1v5). game has great replayability. you can be a buccaneer, trader, pirate, etc. the game does hit a plateau late-game where population steadies out limiting production but it takes a long time to get to that point. the only thing the game has that i absolutely hate is how your dumbass wife always gets kidnapped. good 9/10 for 1 buck on sale

Interface
Players who bring up Interface mostly praise it.
However, the whole Caribbean world looks good, and even if it lacks variety, the few elements are well designed (especially the detailed interface).

If you don't want to use Windows 10, the game works perfect under Linux with Steam Proton.
