Spirit of the North tells an extremely spiritual, but also emotional story without words, a.k.a visual narration.
the graphics are absolutely stunning, for my taste. so raw looking, empty, but still fufilling, is a perfect mix id say. the animation of the fox is awesome aswell, as for the barking like a dog.. i didnt really mind. as far as i know, it is very difficult to capture fox noises in a studio setting. foxes make over 40 different sounds, one more weird than the other, and they dont make them on demand. there are many videos and audio clips of fox noises out there but none of studio quality. if i remember right, the bark used in the game is a heavily modified coyote bark to resemble a fox bark.
(2) relaxing and slow-paced gameplay
The orchestral/piano soundtrack is pretty, atmospheric, overall somewhat melancholic and mournful, though at times also uplifting and soaring.
The puzzles are well-designed, offering a gradual increase in difficulty without becoming overly frustrating.
I played the entire game on my Steam Deck, which made the experience both better and worse.
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway. One more theme was raised by fewer than 6 sampled reviews and is not shown.
