it can also be a bit difficult to trudge through sometimes, because the story is told in a very uncompelling way. all of the characters speak only in riddles and then run off, and it only makes sense at the VERY very end. it IS a good story in the end, and in hindsight I can appreciate the storytelling, but finding a reason to stay invested DURING the actual game can be very difficult
nothing inherently wrong with that, just know what you're getting into when you by this game. the gameplay is solid but there's quite little depth as far as equipment and stats like there is in many other metroidvanias. you get two weapons and thats it, and generally there's not much reason to use anything except whatever gives you the highest damage number - which the game tends to hand you an upgrade on a silver platter every area.
As you can see, this game is beautiful graphically, especially if you're a fan of Pixel Graphics like me, so much details put into this, I mean if you've already seen how these guys made that Touhou Luna Night you wouldn't be surprised how amazing this game looks.
Finally the game ran smoothly and was bug free so if you like fun combat that isn't too hard but not mindless either, and don't mind basic exploration then this game will entertain you with it's smooth movement, fun bosses and intrigueing setting all complemented by a properly retro soundtrack.
It lacks native controller support for most controllers (not an issue if you toggle on Steam input or use 3rd party solutions), both sound effects and music are tied to a single volume slider, and you can't turn off camera shake and bright flashes.
Also runs great on the Steam Deck without hammering the battery too hard!
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
No recurring complaints surfaced in this sample.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway. 3 more themes were each raised by fewer than 6 sampled reviews and are not shown.
