What players think
The recurring themes across 300 analysed reviews: what players praise, what divides them, and what to know.
Foretales is a game that looks and feels like a tabletop experience but is actually a single-player story-driven adventure.
Its gameplay revolves around managing resources and completing missions that play out like puzzles, each with multiple possible solutions.
The illustrations of the cards and art style work very well with anthropomorphized animals (think of Zootopia) that populate this fantasy world and you can see the connections between the type of animals and their attributes and personality.
The writing and art and voice acting are good enough that you care about the story, but the things that the game is checking you on, the things it expects you to do, and your own luck intersect in ways that make it so that you will miss lots, and lots, and lots of content that you qualify for on your current route and within the strictures of your path through the narrative because you didn't have specifically the grab a man by the foot card on your gorilla when you randomly flipped over the guy drowning upside down card during a specific chapter of a specific stage.
Where the player is hopelessly going around in circles, rubbing things in their inventory against things in the game world in the vague hope that something will react appropriately and turn into progress.
Theme by theme
Every theme is scored by what reviewers actually said about it, not just whether they recommended the game.
No themes split opinion in this sample.
Ranked by how many sampled reviews mention each topic. A topic sits in a column by what reviewers said about that topic; the percentage beside it is how many of them recommended the game anyway. 2 more themes were each raised by fewer than 6 sampled reviews and are not shown.
